Petroleum Geology of Libya

Libya has the most important petroleum reserves of any kingdom in Africa and because creation begun in 1961 over 20 billion barrels of oil were produced. Libya is scheduled to arrive the mid-point of depletion of reserves in 2001 and this offers a well timed aspect at which to check the kingdom of petroleum exploration in Libya.

In case of the partial loss of stability, the edges of particles prove to be their less stabilized portions, so the collision of particles results in their mutual fixation according to the face-to-edge type. When the loss of stability is complete, the aggregation occurs mainly according to the face-to-face or face-to-edge at a low angle type. In both cases, the particle fixation may be realized at the expense of the distant or the close potential minimum. In heterogeneous systems, mainly polydispersed associations form due to the predominant aggregation of small and large particles.

Besides the ultramicroaggregates and microaggregates, rare isometric silt grains (5) covered with clay «coats» are encountered in the sample (see Fig. 12, a). An average size of the silt grains varies from 9 to 19 ␮m. Among the solid structural elements (Fig. , Lisse, The Netherlands 33 34 CLAY SEALS OF OIL AND GAS DEPOSITS Fig.

Fife et al. [83]. Other scientists began to use the term epigenesis in describing the postdiagenetic transformations in rocks [84–86]. As the term «epigenesis» is used in the ore geology in another sense, the first of the terms has become preferably used. Later, at the boundary between catagenesis and metamorphism, one more stage has been differentiated and given the name of metagenesis [75]. M. B. Vassoevich [76] proposed to use the term «metagenesis» instead of «metamorphism». Later on, however, the majority of researchers stuck to the original understanding of this term [79, 88].
